I know what you’re thinking: you’re still finishing off the Christmas confectionary stash, and a box of chocs is the biggest Valentine’s Day cliche going. But bear with me. I’m not talking about less-than Quality Street or a bunch of Roses.

From 29 January for 10 days, Chocs For Chance is auctioning off bespoke chocolate collections from a selection of top chocolatiers, chefs and culinarians; the proceeds proceeding to fund the work undertaken by Galvin’s Chance – an ‘into-work’ initiative which assists and supports the young and disadvantaged in entering – and subsequently thriving within – the foodservice industry.

Masterminded by chef Chris Galvin and maitre d’ (and Dinner Dates telly star) Fred Sirieix, a raft of notable names have seized the chance to make their own Chocs For Chance for the highest bidders – legendary professional chocolatiers Paul a. Young and Matthieu de Gottal amongst a group also comprising chefs like Michel Roux Jr., Raymond Blanc, Jose Pizarro and Marcus Wareing.

Enlisting such a fine line-up would mean little if the calibre of the couverture they were working with was lacking, but with Valrhona donating the main material to the challenge, the quality’s as high as the hopes the charity has for smash last year’s £7000 total.
